INTERNATIONAL GLOSSARY

The Quota is an international larp and may have players from many countries attending.  The culture and terminology  of larp is not the same everywhere in the world.  We will use this page to define a few terms and processes that may be unfamiliar or different to our participants from the UK or elsewhere.

Items will be added to this page over time.

In-Game / Off-Game vs In-Character / Out-of-character

The UK tends to use the term IC and OOC (in-character and out-of-character) rather than in-game and off-game.  The terms are virtually synonymous.  IC events are those that happen to the character and are a part of the story.  OOC events are those that happen in the real world and affect the player

Hand in the air

Putting one hand in the air is a common signal in UK larp that the person is 'not there' or is OOC.  Please not we will NOT be using this signal in The Quota.  Someone with their hand in the air is someone who has their hand in the air.

Referees / Game Masters

The Quota does not have the concept of referees or Game Masters.  We do have 'Observers,' who are in-character functionaries, but they will not be there to interpret rules.
